Addressing health literacy is critical to transforming health care quality. In this discussion paper, participants of the IOM Roundtable on Health Literacy compiled ten attributes as guides for achieving the vision of being a health literate organization. Health Literate Organizations make it easier for people to navigate, understand, and use information and services to take care of their health. These attributes are based on real world evidence and best practices. Each attribute is accompanied by examples. Learn what your organization can do to lower barriers for people to get and use health information and services.
